Maquis

The Hurtado family planted vineyards at Viña Maquis in the Colchagua Valley in the 20th century. The original winery was built in 1927 by the owner and engineer, Ignacio Hurtado, when he was just 23 years old. With rivers flowing on both sides of the estate, the Hurtado family knew this property was special: the vineyards were blessed with a temperate climate and rich soils. For nearly 60 years, Viña Maquis has grown grapes that were sold to renowned neighboring wineries.

Twelve years ago, the Hurtado family invested in replanting the vineyards with the finest red wine clones available in both Chile and France. In 2002, the family decided to make their own wine using the exceptional grapes they had cultivated. They built a state-of-the-art winery that utilizes gravity-fed winemaking processes. There, they set out to create Maquis Lien, a “Super Chilean” blend using the vineyard’s finest red grapes that capture the spirit of that era.
